To the southwest of the province of Badajoz, along with Portugal, extends the region of Olivenza, transboundary marking territory, located halfway between the Guadiana valley and the mountains of the South. In these lands is nature friendly. On its smooth topography of hills and vast plains extend home meadows that are common to traditional livestock and wildlife. Its geography, bright, open landscape, is dotted with ancient castles and whitewashed villages, streets and squares that exude history.

The "line" Spanish-Portuguese, one of the oldest borders in Europe, imparts a distinctive imprint on the region, developed over the centuries peculiar histories and traditions. Nature and culture have interacted ancestrally, modeling the character of its landscapes and its people. The unique presence of the Portuguese Manueline style popular at the time of the maritime discoveries, the remnants of ancient nomadic activity in streams and strings or the importance of water, especially in the large reservoir of Alqueva, are some of the attractions of a territory has much to offer lovers of cultural tourism, active and nature.
